Kimberlee Daughtry LPC-S, RPT, EMDR, CGT
Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Founder
Invest in your self, your relationships, your life.
In 2012, I founded Breath of Hope Professional Counseling. As a fellow sojourner, on this spiral path of life, it has been my goal to create an accepting and nurturing environment where people can have the sacred space to unpack life issues and begin healing. I offer support for individuals and couples from a non judgmental stance. Click here to book a free consult.
It is possible to find meaning in the midst of loss, change, or trauma.
Nothing can hurt more or affect you more than being at odds with someone you love and care about. You want to connect, but it's not easy. I can help you communicate, gain understanding, and overcome the challenges in your relationships.
When you are navigating loss, or trauma, every feeling is valid. You may be feeling overwhelmed with “normal” day-to-day tasks, inadequate, shameful, or unable to express your emotions as a result of what you have experienced. Many people wonder if these challenges are normal, especially with others telling them they should be “over it” by now.
You deserve a space to process these things openly. In therapy, you don’t have to have it “all together.” Whether you’re struggling in a relationship, want to move forward from a significant life change or process a traumatic experience, I will meet you with compassion and understanding.
It is okay not not be okay. But it is not okay to stay there.
I work with hopeful, motivated couples and individuals who are gridlocked in the same painful conflicts over and over, struggling with loss, trauma, life transitions or feeling stuck. You want a therapist who can help you develop skills, change patterns, find calm and grow individually and in relationship.
When I first meet you, I provide you with a safe personal space. I begin by getting to know you, what your needs and goals are for our work together. It is important that we develop a genuine connection.
If you have been to therapy in the past, you may have just talked about issues. This is helpful, but when appropropriate I can provide a richer experience. I am trained in various evidenced based modalities of therapy that promotes a creative flair to deepen session content making healing more integrative and fun. For example, I may add a simple art activity or have you utilize the sand tray& figurines to invite you to make your inner world visible. By doing this you tap into your intuition deepening your dialogue and expanding awareness.
For couples. I will offer structured interventions to help undercover what is going on at a deeper level and move from gridlock to dialogue. I may ask the couple to create a picture of what that gridlock looks like by using the figurines in the sand tray. This adds a visual and deepens what is shared.
If struggling with overwhelm, I may have you engage in a relaxation exercise, guided meditation or breathwork.
When working with trauma or anxiety, I may invite you in a reprocessing and reframing activity (EMDR) that helps the brain digest a painful memory so that afterwards the pain is desensitized and a more hopeful outlook emerges.
I work from a trauma informed perspective that is based on how the brain processes incoming information. This is useful whether you have experienced trauma or not. It means that we will look at the bigger picture; what helped you become who you are and why you have the reactions that influence how you feel and act today.
We will also tune into what your physical body is telling you in conjunction with your thoughts, emotions and behaviors. This is the mind body connection.
I will listen to your story, empower you in the face of challenging emotions, and help you explore the coping skills that work for you.
I help couples restore connection and improve communication.
Our work together is highly collaborative: I have expertise in therapy, but you have expertise in you. I will support you in the areas of life you want to work on in order to unlock your own strengths and learn tools to experience clarity and freedom.
During our work together you will:
Learn fresh ways of communicating especially in difficult moments
Acknowledge and communicate how you feel and what you need.
Feel more secure in the amazing things you bring to your relationships
Learn to appropriately set healthy boundaries that support mental, emotional, & physical health.
Pinpoint deep-rooted beliefs or thoughts that keep you stuck.
Take notice of your own intuition and ability to trust yourself.
For Couple Therapy: I am a Certified Gottman Therapist. I use the Gottman Method for Couple Therapy in traditional weekly sessions. I also incorporate sand tray therapy into some of the Gottman interventions when appropriate. I offer Gottman Couple Intensives for those that want to heal faster and block out a chunk of time to do that.
I offer Gottman’s 7 Principles for Making Marriage Work Seminar and Gottman’s Bringing Baby Home Seminar once or twice a year. Both group classes are a psychoeducational; personal problems are not discussed in the group.
For Trauma Therapy, I am certified in EMDR therapy and am a Registered Play Therapist. I utilize EMDR, sand tray therapy and Shamanic Breathwork when appropriate. Click here for more information about Trauma Therapy. I do offer EMDR Intensives for those who want to heal faster and go deeper. You would block out a chunk of time to do that.
Offshoots of EMDR therapy are the DeTUR and Feeling State Protocols. These protocols are used in conjunction with EMDR to help people struggling with any type of addiction and/or codependency. These techniques can help desensitize triggers that are related to the addictive behavior. It fits in well with trauma therapy. I have had much experience working with those struggling with addictions. I am very familiar with the 12 step programs of recovery and can offer support to those in these programs.
I am a believer in Energy work when working with trauma, loss, anxiety and life transitions. I am a Shamanic Breathwork Facilitator and a Level 1 and 2 Reiki practitioner. I will utilize these methods in a group and individual setting upon request. This can definitely play a powerful role in a person’s healing journey.
Although, many of our clinician’s, including myself, are rooted in the Christian faith, we respect people of all faiths and meet them where they are at; not imposing something that is not wanted. Spirituality is very personal and I understand that. I have observed that those who do practice spirituality and try to integrate it into the counseling process, do heal faster. I may encourage you to grow in this area in a way that you are comfortable with outside of our sessions. But it is definitely not a requirement!
Last I offer LPC Supervision to LPC Associates in Texas who are working on their 3000 hr residency.
