Cheri Brown, LCSW, LCDC

Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker

We all want to be seen, heard, and loved. Validation is a key component for the development of confidence, identity, and healing.

As a participant and self-proclaimed observer of humanity, research has shown that we learn how to express our emotions through actions, thoughts, and words.  By observing and experiencing positive and negative consequences of our choices, our parents, guardians, friends and other authority figures teach us how to respond to life around us.

I am fortunate to have met Harriet Learner while working for The Menninger Foundation in 1985.  Her book, “The Dance of Anger,” and the guidance of numerous clinical social workers, carved a path in my personal development and professional career that drives me to pour into the lives of others.

I have seen an interconnection between the past, present, and future.  The impact of trauma can be traced within every civilization since the beginning of time.  Without intervention, cycles continue. As written by Dr. Sandra D. Wilson, “Hurt People, Hurt People.”  And yes, as reflected in the writings of Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk, “The Body Keeps the Score.

On occasion, families face challenges that produce volatile, chaotic, and fractured households.  Whether there were one or many torrential downpours, the effects of emotional tsunamis are devastating.

I have a trauma informed vault of information to help you untangle from past hurts.  One powerful principal I utilize, is Ho’oponopono (pronounced ho-o-poo-no-poo-no; a Hawaiian elder restoration technique I studied with Dr. Hew Len and Joe Vitale of “The Secret”).  I have also found EMDR, tapping, bi-neural beats and sound healing sessions facilitate removal of stuck points when words fall short.

I have been an avid reader.  I remain a lifelong learner in area of trauma, grief, and healing inner child wounds.  My core principles are rooted in what I believe are universal spiritual truths, and the social work code of ethics.  My sessions are tailored with evidence-based strategies designed to address your needs.   I frequently rely upon tools such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Bowan Family Therapy, Biblio Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, EMDR, Sound Healing, Art, Music, and Neuro-Linguist Programming techniques.  I will begin formal Gottman training this year.

I offer cognitive based efforts to swim, float, and walk alongside you and your loved ones to reach safe, happier, and purposeful shores.  Riding the wave is not always easy but, as a team, I am confident you will find new strength and a joie de vie. I would be honored to assist you.
